Facelifts are typically performed as outpatient surgery using either local anesthetic with IV sedation or general anesthetic. Incisions are carefully placed around the ears and within the hairline whenever possible to help conceal scars. To restore a smoother, more defined neck, the surgeon tightens the platysma muscles, repairs vertical banding, reduces excess fat when needed, and removes loose skin.

After a facelift and neck lift, most patients are ready to resume work and nonstrenuous activity in about 2 weeks. You will return home the day of surgery in the care of an adult, wearing a head wrap and possibly with a surgical drain in place.
